DOUGLAS BROWN, PA-C, CAQ-PMHC is the founder of Mason-Dixon Mobile Medicine. He received his master's degree in Physician Assistant Studies from Shenandoah University (Winchester, VA, 2007), and his undergraduate degree in psychology from Hood College (Frederick, MD, 2005). He also received an AAS degree in Emergency Medical Services - Paramedic from Frederick Community College (Frederick, MD, 2003). He completed all coursework toward his EdD in Educational Leadership at Frostburg State University. He completed a Palliative and Serious Illness Care certificate program from the CSU Shiley Haynes Institute for Palliative Care, a course for which he developed the initial curriculum. He is board-certified with the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA), which awarded him a Certificate in Palliative Medicine and Hospice Care (CAQ-PMHC).
Mr. Brown's professional journey has spanned various medical fields, including neurology, neurosurgery, family medicine, sleep medicine, emergency and disaster medicine, occupational health, addiction medicine, and corrections. He has an unwavering commitment to ensuring equitable access to healthcare for underserved and marginalized communities of Frederick County through collaboration with mobile community health (MCH) programs and by bringing serious illness management and palliative care directly to homebound seniors.
He serves on the board of directors for Frederick Health Hospice. He is a member of PAs in Hospice and Palliative Medicine (PAHPM), the LGBT Caucus of the AAPA, and the American Academy of Physician Associates (AAPA).
Before becoming a PA, Mr. Brown spent over 20 years as a computer engineer. He has experience in vehicle navigation for public transit and first response, spacecraft integration and testing, telecommunications equipment, cellular network infrastructure, and submarine data collection. He is a veteran of the U.S. Air Force and served as a volunteer firefighter and paramedic in Frederick, Howard, and Carroll counties for the better part of 40 years. He also served on the PHS-1 and PA-1 Disaster Medical Assistance Teams (DMATs) for more than 15 years.
Mr. Brown lives in Gettysburg, Pennsylvania. He enjoys playing ice hockey, working on his Audi station wagons, and exploring the Pennsylvania roads with his wife in their Coachmen motorhome with their two dogs, Mia and Champ.
